Paul's Dental Surgery

What a crazy series of days.  On Thursday, when I picked Paul up, he was screaming and crying terribly that his ear hurt.  He even screamed and cried all through a super quick stop at Giant Eagle.  I knew something was very wrong.  A trip to the doctor confirmed that his pink eye (discovered Tuesday) was now manifesting in an ear infection.  I waited all afternoon for his pediatrician and the anesthesiologist at Mon General to determine whether it was ok to proceed with the surgery Friday.  They finally decided it was.  About that time I got a call that Grandma Ely was in the ER with confusion.  It turned out that was due to a urinary infection, thank goodness it wasn't something more serious.
Then Grandma Speer came and watched the kids while we went to Parent's Night at Paul's school.  We heard nothing but wonderful things about Paul.  He listens and behaves well, gets along with the other kids, and is doing well academically.  He does not like to do the same task over and over again and does love to interject his own ideas about how things could or should be done.   (No kidding!)  We were very happy to hear great things from his teachers.
Paul very much enjoyed a sleep over with Grandma and we left around 8 am on Friday for his surgery at 11.  He did great through all the preparations and we had fun reading another Phineas and Ferb chapter book together.  They gave him something to make him sleepy and took him off to surgery.  He did freak somewhat when he realized that he was to go off with strangers and we couldn't go with him, but I'm sure he was out quickly after that.  It didn't help that one nurse was a little creepy and kept saying that she was going to hook him up with her granddaughter.  But overall he was very well taken care of.

When Paul came out of the recovery room, he was freaking out, flailing and crying.  As soon as I held him in my lap he fell right to sleep.  For the next hour he went back and forth between freaking out and falling right back to sleep.  Then he slept soundly for a good hour.  Then we finally woke him up.  He did a great job eating a popsicle, but did throw some of it back up.  Shortly afterward we left.  On the way home we stopped at Toys R Us to buy him the Scooby Doo pirate play set he had been wanting.  I was really surprised that he wasn't asleep again by the time we got there.

When we got home, Grandma had dinner waiting for us.  Joy had tons of fun all day with Grandma, she didn't even cry!  It was a crazy day, but I know so many people were praying for us and God blessed with things going as smoothly as possible.  Today, Paul has complained slightly of his throat hurting (from the breathing tube), but overall he is acting like himself and doing fantastic.
