Since Farmer George cut the hay, we walked out to the creek a couple days ago.
As we walked on the part where the pipeline had gone through, there were a lot of very muddy/sandy looking parts. I told the kids not to walk on them because it might be quicksand. They did not believe me at all that it could be quicksand. I said I imagine every person who ever got stuck in quicksand thought it wasn't quicksand. They were complaining very much about not being allowed to step wherever they wanted. On the way back, there was a spot to step from the pipeline route to where George had cut without any weeds, but there was a suspicious sandy area right there. I told the kids I'd go first to make sure it was safe. I stepped down and sunk above my knee high boots with both feet in a fraction of a second. I leaped with all my might and somehow thankfully propelled myself out of the muck. I think they will believe me next time when I tell them not to step somewhere. For a little while at least.
